Quotations is about words, written and spoken throughout history. Words speak to us through our eyes and our ears. They enrich our lives, allow us to communicate thoughts to others, and sometimes, last for generations. This podcast explores not only the words, but the speaker, author, figure, or character who originated them. To whom were they said or written? What was their intended effect and on whom? What was the originator thinking? Find out each episode and we discover new quotations, some familiar, some not!

Episode 106 - David Foster Wallace on Learning How to Think

David Foster Wallace was an author and professor of English and Philosophy. Sadly, he died in 2008, but not before delivering one of the finest, most raw and real commencement addresses of any age. In it, Wallace conveyed real life in a brutal but truthful way to the graduates of Kenyon College. We are fortunate to have a recording of this speech and more fortunate still that his words are as true in 2022 as they were in 2008, and I suspect they will be for countless years to come.
